Russia: plywood and pulp exports up in January-May 2016

By far the most popular Russian woodworking industry product – plywood – keeps on gaining interest of the international market members. Export volumes, of both Russian plywood and pulp continue their growth, indicates the statistical data provided by the Russian Federal Customs Service. 

Thus, in January-May 2016, Russian plywood exports reached 1.061 million m3 in volume terms, having grown by the significant 18.83% over the respective period of the last year when plywood exports from Russia came up to 893,600 m3. Despite an impessive growth of the Russian plywood exports in volume, in value terms they went a bit down. In the first 5 months of the current year, Russia exported plywood valued at $396.3 million. Last year these figures were higher – $424.8 million. Therefore, Russian plywood volumes decreased by 6.7% year-on-year.  

Unlike plywood producers, pulp ones managed to grow export volumes both in volume and in value terms for several seasons in a row. Thus, in January-May 2016, Russian pulp exports grew in volume terms by 5.42% from last year's 824,000 tons up to 868,700 tons. Year-on-year grows the Russian pulp exports in value terms came up to 3.18% – from $436.9 million up to $450.8 million.
