Indonesian furniture to hit the US market

The SVLK (Timber Legality Assurance Scheme) will become Indonesia's key point to penetrate the United States furniture market, said Wijayanto, the head of the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) in Chicago on Tuesday, September 23, 2014.

"Every Indonesian furniture products that are ready for export are guaranteed to be environmentally friendly and fits the SVLK criteria," Mr. Wijayanto added, as quoted by the Indonesian news agency tempo.co.

The statement was made at the International Casual Furniture and Accessories Market in Chicago, which took place from September 16 to September 19, 2014.

Eight Indonesian furniture companies participated at the event, including Elmas, Maraton Kencana, Ateja, Universal, Jewels of Java, Elanamar Design, Mulia Manufacturing, and Tanjaya.

At the moment, China has the largest share (50%) in the US furniture imports, with an annual value of US$24 billion. Indonesia occupies the eight position with an import value of US$713 million, 2 percent from the total value of US furniture imports.
