The German furniture industry sales grew by 3.2% in 2016 and reached a new all-time high of EUR 17.96 billion. This means that the domestic furniture manufacturers achieved an extra turnover for a third year in a row. However, the January forecast of 3.5% growth and a turnover of more than EUR 18 billion was just missed.

After a successful 2015, it wasn't easy to achieve a further increase level in 2016. Despite the good figures, the sector continues to worry about the high import pressure and the declining margins. Therefore, the results from companies to companies are very different.

As Dirk-Uwe Klaas, chief executive of the Association of the German Furniture Industry (VDM) said, the German furniture manufacturers are also confident about 2017 due to the favorable economic conditions. In particular, further increases in construction investments are expected, which have a direct impact on the furniture sector due to the corresponding installation requirements. In 2017, too, the sector expects further moderate growth.
